Theme of the project is the development and optimization of antenna
arrays. These are used in various areas of radio frequency technology
such as communication antennas or radar and measuring instruments. In
particular, under this project investigated the noise characteristics of
An optimization with respect to small noise figures and a possible "sharp" antenna characteristic is the goal. Especially at higher frequencies can be constructed by using antenna arrays with so-called "quasi-optical" systems that are used instead of a distribution network, the directivity of the antenna arrays used.
The project is currently still in the construction phase. First experiments with a modular Verstärker-/Antennensystem have already been carried out.

It is operated at a frequency of 8.4 GHz and is used in the first test runs for optimization of antenna parameters and feed phases.
Using a specially designed rotating antenna system (consisting of a turntable and various ISEL on the HPIB bus controllable measurement components), the polar pattern of the antenna are detected.

The control and evaluation is done using a PC and an application written in Borland-C++ interface.

Thus, for example, the directional characteristics of the present record above antenna arrays.

Further steps go there, a transition toward creating in microstrip technology built, multi-layer antenna arrays, while on the way to accomplish the leap to much higher frequencies. It will be created low-noise amplifiers in the millimeter-wave range as well as mixers and frequency multipliers.
